Let’s now take a look at each of the transport options in more detail:

Private or shared water taxi

The water taxi is the best option because it can pick you up at your hotel or in popular locations if you choose the shared one at any time of the night. It’s also fast and comfortable. Expect to pay extra for a night or early morning pick up.

Depending on the departing time of your flight, if it’s not super early, the shuttle buses are the second best option because they’re cheap, frequent and fairly fast (20 minutes ride). The bus will leave you right in front of the arrival hall on the ground floor. You can book your Express bus ticket here to guarantee you seat on the bus.

There are two airport shuttle bus services available:

Alilaguna water bus

The Alilaguna water bus stops in many places around Venice but also in Lido, Murano, Burano and Giudecca. Therefore, this solution is good if staying on other islands.

With the first night route of the blue line, you can expect to arrive at the airport soon enough to get a 6 or 7 am morning flight. The first orange line water bus leaves around 6 am so it’s not ideal if you want to be on time for your early morning flight.

There are 2 water bus lines departing from different places in Venice and arriving to the airport dock called Darsena of Marco Polo airport:

  • Blue line: this is the water bus line for you, if you want to leave from Murano, Ospedale (Venice’s hospital), Lido, San Marco, Zattere or even Giudecca.
