There are some people I have come across online that actually believe that traveling to Venice on a budget (and all alone) isn’t a good idea at all???
Well, I have some good news for you!
It’s absolutely possible to spend some days in Venice without breaking the bank and have the best time of your life moving around the city alone!
There are different ways that will allow you to stay in Venice without spending too much. In this article, I am going to suggest a couple of the best hostels in Venice for solo travellers so you know exactly where to stay.
Is Venice good for solo travellers?
Of course, it is! Venice is a good destination for everyone.
Some people may think that Venice is the ultimate couple city destination or the perfect getaway if you have a family and want to have fun with your kids.
But discovering Venice at your own pace is an incredible experience!
Traveling solo to Venice means planning your time as you want and visiting what you’re really interested in having in your itinerary.
If you’re reluctant to book your stay here for your budget, don’t worry, in Venice, you can find a couple of great hostels for solo travellers.
Is Venice Italy safe for solo female Travellers?
Venice is an extremely safe city for female travellers.
So if you’re wondering if this city would be a good choice if travelling solo as a woman, the answer is yes.
In Venice, you mostly move around on foot or by water bus, so there are no cars and motorbikes. This means that nobody will grab your bag and run.
Venice is also safe by night!
The city empties more or less after dinner and even if there are not many people hanging around its streets, there’s no reason to feel unsafe here.

- The best way to save money if you’re travelling solo is by sharing a tour or experience with other people. For example, if you want to ride a gondola or learn everything about local street food, you can share the ride or tour with a small group of other travellers like you.
This could turn into an opportunity to meet new people and share other moments with them in Venice again! - If travelling solo, one of the best options to not spend a fortune to stay in the historical city centre, is looking for a hostel. There are many hostels all around the city centre and in different districts. It’s up to you to choose one located in a very busy area like in San Marco or Dorsoduro, so you won’t miss anything happening there, or a more relaxed one like in Castello or Cannaregio neighbourhoods. With this article, I’m going to share some information about some of the best hostels in Venice for solo travelers.
- I suggest learning a couple of Italian words if you’re planning to travel solo to Venice. Just in case you get lost (it can happen when the GPS doesn’t work) and you need to ask for directions or for any other type of basic information, it could be really helpful to speak some Italian or have this Italian Phrasebook & Dictionary with you. Venice is a very touristic city, so usually almost everyone speaks some English, but it’s also possible to find locals who can’t communicate in foreign languages.

There are both female and mixed dormitories as well as twins, double and family rooms. All dormitories have air-conditioning and ensuite bathrooms.

If you’re staying here, I recommend having a Venetian aperitivo at the nearby Osteria San Trovaso, in front of one of the last gondola’s shipyard left in the city.
