Gritti Palace - San Marco 2467, Campo Santa Maria del Giglio, Venice | | | |
In the beginning of the 16th century this palace was the residence of Doge Andrea Gritti. Today it is a luxurious hotel preferred by crowned heads and Hollywood stars. The prices fluctuate depending on the number of museum valuables in the room. Dinners are held on the terrace with the splendid view of the Basilica Santa Maria della Salute. Not to mention that this very hotel was visited in due time by Ernest Hemingway. For those who are not very familiar with Venice and doesn’t get the difference between five-stars hotels with terraces and the view of Santa Maria della Salute we make it clear: Hotel Danieli is located near Doge’s Palace on the noisy embankment Riva degli Schiavoni. The best rooms of the hotel have the view of the Lagoon, big cruise ships and luxurious private yachts. Palas Gritti discribed in this abstract is on Canale Grande. There are absolutely no embankments there at all, houses are rising up right from the water. Through the windows you see gondolas, launches, vaporettos and fronts of ancient palazzos. |
