Al Profeta, Dorsoduro 2671, Venice
A cozy inner yard, wax cloths on the tables, mosquitoes, wine… the only thing missing to build harmony is grape vine. There isn’t one here. Yet there is an apricot tree. It grew up right in the yard and gives real flame-colored apricots. Restaurateur David puts a chair onto a table, climbs up the tree, picks the fruits and is delighted to treat the visitors. David enjoys doing everything himself. Yes, of course, there is a menu in the restaurant, even in English, but David attends to every table personally to tell proudly: “Today we have…”
Tagliatelle Al Profeta, Venic
The master has something to be proud of. In the centre of Venice they do not hesitate to simply warm refrigerated pizza, but here they cook all the pasta, ravioli, cakes and even bread by themselves. Pay attention to tagliatelle Al Profeta with dressing of eggplants, fresh Cherry tomatoes and white cheese. Venetian cuisine doesn’t usually use sauces, but this very dish is dressed with a tasty and rich creamy one. For dessert be sure to take a piece of home-made Tiramisu cake – you’ll get to know what it must be like. Unfortunately, coffee is a problem here. There’s no coffee machine, and they make the coffee themselves – it tastes quite peculiarly, but visitors are honestly tipped in advance. You could take tea but the restaurant is for the locals – tea is out of the question. There are no juices too. There are no sauces for meat. And, of course, credit cards are not accepted.
How to find? Get of a vaporetto at Ca Rezzonico station and go straight along Calle Lunga San Barnaba. After about 100 metres find a number 2671 on your left and a torch with words Al Profeta. The entrance into the inner yard is on the left.
