Doge’s Palace is called Palazzo Ducale in Italian (in both words the second syllable is stressed). It is truly an enigmatical building that keeps medieval mysteries and legends.

This palace is where the renowned grand Sala del Maggior Consiglio is situated – the biggest room in the world with no bearing under the ceiling – no idea, how! Along the walls of this Sala portraits of Venice’s Doges are hanging. One of the walls has a black curtain closing the place where a portrait of doge Falier should be. He was exposed in treason and executed in 1335. Neither of his portraits was preserved to our days. It’s something like a damnation.
Going on with the history of this mysterious place we should mention the celebrated Bridge of Sighs that connects Doge’s Palace with the neigbouring prison. The unfortunates sighed looking at the world for the last time when they where crossing this bridge.
