Residenza Junghans is a students’ dorm on Giudecca Island, recently renovated and is now worth passing for a good no less than a three-star hotel. Students squarely and regularly live here, but there are 50 rooms being rented to tourists on a commercial basis. The rooms are clean, spacious, very light, with plane modern interior, which is rare in Venice. The floor is laid with span-new parquet, and this is also a unique thing for Venice – they usually make it either with stone or a well-handled carpet.

In all the rooms there is a shower and a toilet. Beds are done by a woman that comes every day. It seems to be all very well but the rooms have neither air conditioning nor a fan. Window shutters at day-time could be a rescue from the heat, but, alas, there are none. You won’t find a TV-set but in a rest-room, the only one for a passage. There is a kitchen on the ground floor, but there is no stove in there, just a microwave – so, you won’t be able too cook.

Officially a double room costs here ˆ70 per night, but the administration will advise you to write at the reception’s address applying for a discount, if you are going to stay longer. Splitting the difference at ˆ250 a week is quite possible. All the more that the authorities do their best for tourists to feel comfortably here as in a hotel. They even put an announcement at the entrance: “In sleeping time from 23:00 to 8:00 making noise and disorder is forbidden! If the first warning doesn’t make you stop the revelry we will call the police”.
